In the summer of 2023 I had laser eye surgery to correct my vision and essentially free me from my daily routine of having to switch between three different pairs of glasses.
Can I just applaud you Ruth for this brilliant information. And your readers comments are so useful. Really an eye-opener for me if you pardon the pun! Eye-boggling photos and loved your tranquilliser descriptions in today's Post. And yes definitely one of the photos aftrr your treatment you look a little euphoric???
I fixed a bowl for a cat that did not have issues with vomiting, I started dermaplanning... will a laser eye surgery be my next adventure? These posts are costing me a lot of money!
I am so interested in this. I have high myopathy (-6) in both eyes, astigmatism and posterior vitreous detachment in one eye. I’ve worn glasses since I was 9 and lenses since I was 15. My eyes are not great with my contacts now, too dry I think, but I need to wear them for the gym, playing tennis etc and I wear my glasses for work. I am SO BORED of having shit eyes. I am 48 and know that my eyes will get worse over time even if I have surgery but this has galvanised me to contact the clinic and at least talk to them about whether or not my eyes are suitable. I honestly can’t imagine what life would be like without my eyesight being a total faff and pain.
Yeah speak to them! Honestly has been nothing short of miraculous. Although I would say if you have dry eyes NOW then brace positions for what is to come…
Oh interesting. A lifetime of eye drops ahead then! 😵💫 I got some quite cool new glasses recently (a snip at £450.. I have to get the thinnest lenses to stop my glasses sliding off my nose - they’d be 1cm thick otherwise 😅) and the legs are hurting my ears. It’s such a ball ache. I am going to investigate..
Am looking forward to your follow up. I had it done 10 years ago, and it was life changing. HOWEVER…. They are degrading again. I was shortsighted (-4.5 prescription). Got back to virtually 20:20 but am now back to -1.5. Just bad enough for daily glasses wear and have to legally wear them to drive. I am SO annoyed. Bit optician said it’s likely screen use - especially during pandemic when I did 12+hour days all on screen.
What age were you when you had them done? Interesting re the screen use. I can imagine it’s slowly killing all of our vision, I mean when I look at actually how tiny the font is in this comment box….
I was early 30s. It was still worth every penny because that time without lenses and glasses was incredible! But I also have friends who had it done and still have perfect vision! And I’m 42 now and still read perfectly - the optician said it’s unlikely I’ll need reading glasses for ages.

Can I ask how long between your initial assessment and the surgery please Ruth? Also, what is the follow up schedule like? Thank you

I had it too - about 20 years ago and never regretted it :-)
Still going strong?
Yes for distance but apparently, ‘normal’ ageing has caught up with my near sight #damn
