Oh very good indeed. I could echo nearly all of this (I am GenX by a lot more than a mere month 😉 so I absolutely share your instinctive “wtf is this and why would I ever need it” approach). I bought an Oura last spring after my health issues caught up with me and hit me in the face with a shovel. Aside from the overwhelming anxiety at the data it was giving me (‘You’re super stressed and everything is out of balance!’) My main issue was wearing it consistently - I really don’t like sleeping with it on, but you kind of need to do that to get the full picture. Because of this issue, I also tried sleeping with the new Apple Watch and also the Whoop Band instead (now sounding a bit tech-promiscuous…). In December I was wearing all three and by January this year I had become so freaked out by all the different data I stopped wearing anything at all. I am just now, returning to using only the ring - as a tool and not as a form of “health police”. And for me I think that’s the issue - this type of tech is great in principle- but you have to remember who’s the boss….(which is *you* just in case that’s not clear). It’s there to serve and assist, not dictate. The only other tech I bought to try recently is the Lumen (look it up - my kids thought I’d bought a vape!) I have a specific metabolic issue I am trying to fix - so this device is useful data to add to what the ring tells me. I have much work to do on myself - but I’ve now got to a place where the One Ring to Rule them All is a useful companion. x

You are almost making me want one...a fellow 80s baby here so very similar to how you started off ...but the cost is huge so can't really justify, very pricey. Love your writing though xx

I love my Oura ring. I have the previous generation and have had it since January 2023. Not only has it been beneficial to all you’ve recommended but it knew I was pregnant before I did 😳 and it’s so good at predicting when I might be getting sick, so I can stock up on vitamins and take it easy.

On another note earlier this year the battery started to misbehave and it would die after a couple of days. Oura sent me a a brand new one. No questions asked.

I love mine. Even though it is a bit garish.

Honestly, I cannot believe how accurate the cycle stuff is. I really wish this sort of tech had been available when I was TTC.

Omg yes! I actually bought it because I didn’t think I was ovulating (I’d had an ovary removed three months prior) and just wanted to track what was going on and see if baby-making was even possible. Three months later — I was pregnant! It was also incredibly useful when I was pregnant too (although I had to move it to from my index finger to ring) and it picked up unusual heart rhythms which meant I was promptly investigated and found to be extremely anaemic. I sing the praises of Oura to everyone! It’s a shame they’re so pricey as I think everyone should have one.

Love your review. I feel the sale about my Apple Watch. At the begging I was obssesed with closing my daily rings, but now I just accept that somedays I just need to rest.

I’m just as surprised as you are that you love it- I was expecting it would be in the bin my this time. Now I’m giving it a serious look! Your activity increase is hugely impressive.

I LOVE that i’m the First person to comment on this! And For so many reasons… Also a Gen X-er, (although 10 yrs older than you ) and from a Medical family who are predominantly major ‘scoffers’ at anything to do with ‘Wellness’ - although having said that, both my sister And brother wear smart watches (1 apple; 1 garmin) and My Bro makes his Own Kefir…. (!?!) I have also recently been told by my GP that my blood pressure is high, so - as I type - I’m wearing a ‘24 Hour blood pressure Monitor’, which in itself is a pretty weird bit of ‘wearable tech’ (!) My Dad was a urologist, and he’s always said that the ‘Fashion’ for drinking litres of water is largely overstated! My 5 yr old really wants a Fitbit (although I think mainly because her cousins have them), but for me - Increasingly, I feel like I’m moving away from tech… I don’t have apple pay; I do like playing music through a speaker - but still can’t figure out the Sonos app properly (!) and I don’t even check my step count - unless I Know it’s going to be close to 10k 😆 However, that said, I Love a bit of bling, so really looking forward to seeing your review of the 💍 ‘colour-way/ Options’ !

Love that drinking water is overrated by the man in the know! 🤣

I've had mine for a while and at the time they had free lifetime access to the app, I realise now how lucky that was! They've since issued me with a new ring because the battery kept running out within a day. I've heard this happen to other people too. My latest one now needs charging every 3 days, which is still pretty annoying. I wonder if they've resolved this issue with the newest model you've got? Keep us posted!

I mean mine is new so who knows, it’s doing seven or eight days!
